GEO for regional WA: mining services and remote operators.

Regional Western Australia runs on high value business to business relationships: services into mining and resources, heavy equipment, logistics, camp and site support, specialist trades and compliance. The contracts are large, the buyers are professional, and the supplier base is genuinely specialised.

It is also one of the least documented commercial environments in the country, which means the assistants those buyers are increasingly starting with have very little to work from.

The buyers have changed faster than the suppliers

Procurement and operations people in resources are using AI assistants the same way everyone else is: to shortlist, to check who does what, to understand options before making calls. They are not making final decisions on an assistant's recommendation, but they are building the shortlist with it, and if you are not on the shortlist the rest does not matter.

Meanwhile most regional WA suppliers have a website that has not meaningfully changed in years, no reviews of any kind, minimal industry press presence, and capability information that exists only in a capability statement PDF. To an engine, that business is close to invisible.

What these buyers actually ask

The questions are technical and heavily qualified, and that is good news, because specific questions have specific answers.

  • Who services a named region: Pilbara, Goldfields, Mid West, Kimberley, Great Southern
  • Who holds particular certifications, accreditations or compliance approvals
  • Who has demonstrable experience with a specific commodity, site type or scale of operation
  • Who can mobilise within a given timeframe, and what the logistics look like
  • Who is set up for the shutdown and turnaround windows that drive the calendar

Almost none of this is answerable from a typical supplier website, and all of it is straightforward to publish.

Get the capability statement out of the PDF

This is the single highest value change most regional WA businesses can make. Everything a buyer needs is usually already written down, and it is locked inside a document that engines cannot read, index or quote. Moving that content onto readable pages, organised by the questions buyers actually ask, converts an invisible asset into a citable one.

Your capability statement already contains the answer. It is just in a format the engines cannot read.

Citations in a B2B market

Review platforms matter far less here than in consumer markets. What engines lean on instead is industry press, association and chamber membership, supplier directories run by major operators, conference and expo listings, project announcements and tender records. These are unglamorous and they are exactly what a model treats as independent corroboration.

Why the window is open

Regional WA suppliers compete on relationships and track record, and those advantages are real. But relationships do not put you on an AI generated shortlist, and a new procurement lead with no history in the region is now perfectly likely to start there. The suppliers documenting themselves properly now will be the ones those shortlists name.

Our audit maps the questions buyers in your region and commodity are asking, and shows who the engines currently name. For most regional operators, the honest answer is a competitor with a better website rather than a better business.
